We fully support this goal – sustainable practices are important to us.

Why we are temporarily suspending shipping to EU countries

For a small shop that ships directly to customers in several EU countries, the new and still nationally regulated obligations create a very high administrative burden.

Depending on the EU country to which an order is shipped, the following obligations, among others, may arise:

Registration as a packaging producer in the respective destination country

Participation in a national packaging or recycling system

Quantity declarations for the packaging materials used

Ongoing license and administration fees

If applicable, the appointment of an authorized representative in the respective destination country, according to the currently valid PPWR framework

There is no uniform registration or packaging license for all of Europe. Registration in Germany does not replace the respective obligations in other Member States.

Given our shipping volumes, the recurring costs and administrative effort are unfortunately not economically justifiable in relation to individual orders. To continue to ensure the quality of our products, fair prices, and personal service, we will therefore temporarily stop shipping orders to EU countries outside of Germany as of August 12, 2026.

This decision is not easy for us. We know that many of you in neighboring European countries have been with us for a long time. Precisely for this reason, we want to openly explain why we must take this step.

Transparency on potential costs

Costs are not uniformly set across the EU. They depend particularly on the destination country, packaging material and weight, the number of shipments, the respective take-back system, and, if applicable, the fees of an authorized representative.

Destination Country

Typical Effort

Cost Nature

France

Registration, system participation, quantity reporting, possibly authorized representative

License based on quantity and material; additional ongoing administrative or representative costs possible

Italy

Registration and participation in the national system, reporting

Material- and quantity-dependent contributions

Spain

Register entry, system participation, reporting, authorized representative

Material- and quantity-dependent contributions as well as administrative effort

Austria

System participation, reporting, authorized representative

Material- and quantity-dependent contributions as well as administrative effort

Netherlands

Registration and national reporting

Dependent on packaging type, quantity, and national system

Belgium

Registration and system participation

Material- and quantity-dependent

Poland

Register entry, reporting and system obligations

Material- and quantity-dependent

Other EU Countries

Separate national registration, reporting, and licensing

Individual costs per country and system

Even the basic administrative effort can amount to several hundred euros annually per destination country – even before the actual packaging licenses are added. The actual burden can therefore only be calculated based on the packaging used and the specific shipping volumes per country.

Switzerland and other non-EU countries

The PPWR is a European Union regulation. Shipping to non-EU countries – particularly Switzerland – is not affected by our change in EU shipping.

We will continue to supply our customers in Switzerland and other non-EU countries with the same quality, care, and passion as usual.

Please note that for shipments to Switzerland, the usual customs, import, and, if applicable, national regulations still apply.

We are monitoring developments

Currently, a possible relief is being discussed at the EU level. The European Commission has proposed, with COM(2025) 982 final / 2025/0395 (COD), to suspend the obligation to appoint an authorized representative for EU-based companies until January 1, 2035.

However, at the time of publication of this article, this proposal is not yet legally binding. Furthermore, national registration, reporting, and packaging license obligations would generally continue to exist.

We are therefore closely monitoring legal developments. As soon as legally sound and economically viable shipping to EU countries is possible again for us, we will, of course, resume shipping and inform you directly.

Thank you for your understanding, loyalty, and support.

Best regards,

TEAM VINTAGEDRIVER

Sources and further information

PPWR – Regulation (EU) 2025/40: Full text on EUR-Lex

Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection: European Law on Packaging and Packaging Waste

European Commission – COM(2025) 982 final: Proposal to suspend certain authorized representative obligations

European Parliament – Procedure 2025/0395(COD): Current status of the legislative procedure

Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister: Information on authorized representatives and packaging obligations

Note: This article serves as transparent information regarding our shipping decision and does not constitute legal advice.
